Obituary of Marcia A. Maitland

Maitland, Marcia A. (nee Best), age 77 passed away in Hospice on May 6, 2020 after a brief illness. Born October 14, 1942 in Morris, IL and raised in Hamburg, NY. Beloved daughter of the late James F. Best and Janice E. Best. Cherished mother of the late Mark (Angela) Lickliter, Kevin (Tammy) Lichliter and Kathy (Derek) Ruhter. Loving grandmother to Hailey, Dylan, Nathan, Sam, Macey, Maddi, Emily, Michael, Alexa, Katy and Kaila. Dear sister of Jode (Donald), Landsittel, late James (Rusty) Best, Janice Best, Frederick (Karin) Best, Michael (Maun) Best, David (Debbie) Best and Mary (Mark) Gentile. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and many friends. Marcia, also known as Muzzy to a lot of her family members was the oldest of eight children. She graduated from Immaculata High School in Hamburg and attended Paul Smith College. She lived in many parts of the US throughout her life and eventually returned to Hamburg. She was part owner and manager of The General Store in Lake Havasu, Arizona before moving back to Hamburg. She then worked at Sears for many years in sales and was working for E.F. Burke Realty Company at the time of her death. Marcia was a free spirit wit a big, bright smile and a zest for life. Her passion was hiking, photography and rock hounding. She loved gatherings with the family. In her last act of unselfishness, Marcia donated her body to science. "If we lose each other in the shadow of the trees at dusk, I will wait for you and if I fall behind wait for me". She will be sorely missed.
